Next Right Thing
I woke up this morning
Do the next right thing
Went and took a shower
Do the next right thing
Put on my clothes
Do the next right thing
Had devotion for half an hour
Do the next right thing
Got in my car to go to work
If I killed myself who would it hurt
Run my car right off the road
Slam it right into a pole
But instead in just keep straight
Got this voice tell me to wait
Got more to live for so please just think
And do the next right thing
Drip, drip
It’s inherent in my bloodline
To do the wrong thing at the wrong time
I’m not just fighting what’s in my mind
But what my family left behind
Baaaaad blood
And bad expressions of love
It started somewhere way back when
And it’s been affecting all my kin
An upward climb is all it’s been
So Lord please grant me real thick skin
I won’t give up, and won’t give in
Don’t want to lose, I want to win
So I’ll rehearse what you have told me
Though it’s hard you’re there to hold me
And through the tears I see you show me
To live one day at a time
Won’t let this moment pass me by
Won’t let this pain do me in
Nothing to gain if I give in
You encourage me because you know me
To do the next right thing
As he walks on by I
Do the next right thing
I really want to say Hi I
Do the next right thing
I need to leave him alone and
Do the next right thing
So I just go home and
Do the next right thing
I could wallow under the sheets
Do I need a man to feel complete?
Looking for loving and feeling weak
But don’t want my value to be sold cheap
So I just turn over and go to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
And if I’m alive when I awake
I’ll do the next right thing
Drip, drip
It’s inherent in my bloodline
To do the wrong thing at the wrong time
I’m not just fighting what’s in my mind
But what my family left behind
Baaaaad blood
And bad expressions of love
It started somewhere way back when
And it’s been affecting all my kin
An upward climb is all it’s been
So Lord please grant me real thick skin
I won’t give up, and won’t give in
Don’t want to lose, I want to win
So I’ll rehearse what you have told me
Though it’s hard you’re there to hold me
And through the tears I see you show me
To live one day at a time
Won’t let this moment pass me by
Won’t let this pain do me in
Nothing to gain if I give in
You encourage me because you know me
To do the next right thing
I arrived at my job
Do the next right thing
I think its run by the mob
Do the next right thing
Still I sit down at my desk
And I try to do my best
I pray to God to give me rest to
Do the next right thing
I leave my job and head on home
Do the next right thing
But at home I feel alone
Do the next right thing
So why not hang out all night
Do the next right thing
Do things to do my body right
Do the next right thing
Although I’m not pleased with all my life
I know rebellion is just all hype
It will take you up and slam you right
Down on your face and you won’t like
How you’ll end up, not worth the fight
Not worth the fuss, so I leave it alone
And just go home
I just go home and
Do the next right thing
Drip, drip
It’s inherent in my bloodline
To do the wrong thing at the wrong time
I’m not just fighting what’s in my mind
But what my family left behind
Baaaaad blood
And bad expressions of love
It started somewhere way back when
And it’s been affecting all my kin
An upward climb is all it’s been
So Lord please grant me real thick skin
I won’t give up, and won’t give in
Don’t want to lose, I want to win
So I’ll rehearse what you have told me
Though it’s hard you’re there to hold me
And through the tears I see you show me
To live one day at a time
Won’t let this moment pass me by
Won’t let this pain do me in
Nothing to gain if I give in
You encourage me because you know me
To do the next right thing
